Sleeping arrangements for the summer camp are in the recently built, modern grammar school, Šafránkova škola, which from it’s hilltop perch looks down at the ArtMill. Children are chaperoned by 2 counselors and one adult, with a doctor or nurse present at all times. Art Mill’s minivan delivers children to and from the sleeping dorms each day: a 3 minute drive. Weather permitting, it is a lovely walk through the forest and around the lake. Breakfast and dinner are cafeteria style by professional cooks, at Šafránkova škola.
Visiting Groups and Students are housed in one of many nearby pensions, such as Dvur Krutenice, where breakfast and dinner are served. An indoor swimming pool and sauna are available, as is horse-backriding.
Lunches are served outdoors at ArtMill, with fresh garden food that the students help pick each day.
Daily classes are at the ArtMill, where students are in contact with Ms. Benish’s atelier and the host of visiting Master Artists and volunteer student teachers, the fields for herb picking, the lake for swimming and forests to hike in. Outings are planned to the nearby castle of Rabí, a renovated 12th century fortress just 8 kilometers from the Red Mill, or to Muzeum Horažďovice, a former Kinsky family chateau and Benish’s artist-run space of contemporary art, Gallery Califia.
